It's important that you adopt the proper mindset and are properly prepared for your experience. Please read the following before participating in your first lodge.
01. This is a nontraditional, non-religious based spiritual experience! It is helpful if you can lay aside any preconceived prejudices, personal agendas, conditioned thinking or beliefs that you may have adopted along your life's journey. You'll be pleasantly surprised to discover it's UNLIKE anything you can imagine or have ever experienced before!
02. Lodges are open to the spiritual community and held on the first Saturday of each month 6 pm to 11 pm, rain or shine.
Please do NOT arrive early unless you want to be put to work and help me finish up evening ranch chores and prepare for that night's event. (For the record, I am deeply grateful for any help!)
03. There is NO charge for this service. HOWEVER, monetary contributions are GREATLY appreciated as they allow for me to continue to make this invaluable service available to the spiritual community.
04. SEATING IS LIMITED! Reservations are REQUIRED and MUST be made at least 7 DAYS PRIOR to that month's upcoming lodge.
05. A LODGE MAY BE CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF PARTICIPANTS and will ONLY be held if 3 or more people sign up. (To prevent cancellations, be sure to invite at least two of your friends to join you!)
Participants will be notified of cancellation by email and/or text message at least four days prior to the lodge.
Fasting Prior to the Lodge
Veteran sweaters, who take their lodge experience very seriously, know the benefit to conducting a water or juice fast (abstaining from food) during the 24 hours leading up to the lodge. Fasting helps the body purge toxins and gives the system a chance to rest and reboot.
If you also observe a vow of silence during the fast, you'll not only give your mind and vocal chords a rest, but your attention span, focusing skills and ability to listen to others (without rehearsing what you're going to say next) will greatly improve, too.
(If you also include fasting from social media during this time you'll discover just how 'fast' you'll get dialed into the Divine!)
If you decide to fast during this time, please be sure to drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. If you feel nauseous, faint, dizzy or light-headed, you can break the fast with a piece of toast with a little bit of organic honey or coconut oil. (A cracker or two also helps relieve these symptoms.)
If you elect not to fast for whatever reason, please do NOT eat at least 6 hours prior to the lodge, as sometimes the extreme heat will make for an upset stomach. (Funky odors inside a lodge can make for an unpleasant experience for everyone and an embarrassing moment for the offender. I AM armed with plenty of essential oils, just in case... but well- it's just better not to eat prior to the lodge.)
Potluck Dinner (Held after the lodge!)
After the lodge, it is customary for everyone to enjoy a vegetarian potluck style dinner designed to replenish and nurture the body. Please remember to bring your favorite organic/non GMO (whenever possible) vegetarian (dairy products are acceptable) snack or dish to share with the group.
Please prepare and/or cook your potluck contribution prior to arrival. If it's a hot dish, you can reheat it while everyone is changing back into their street-clothes after the lodge.
(Beverages, eating utensils and napkins will be provided.)
Blessing Ceremony
After we're finished preparing the food, before filling our plates and sitting down to enjoy the feast, everyone is asked to observe a brief blessing ceremony.
What to Bring
Since this is a MIXED MODESTY sweat, please make sure you're properly dressed for the experience. ALWAYS bring your street clothes in addition to a TOWEL and swimsuit, shorts or t-shirt, or wrap to wear inside the lodge. Lodges get hot, you'll sweat (a lot!) and your clothes WILL get soaking wet.
Be smart! Bring a poncho, blanket or bathrobe to wear when you're outside the lodge as the evenings do get chilly, even in the summer months, and you do not want to catch a chill.
Make sure to wear appropriate footwear to protect your feet from goat-heads (also known as the dreaded sand spurs!) and other surprises commonly found on ranches that contain free-range animals.
Shoes are NOT permitted inside the lodge. Instead, you can leave them outside the lodge on the deck. They are strongly recommended inside the house, in case one of the dogs (or us) accidentally drags in a goat-head that escaped notice.
If you have sacred items that you'd like to have cleansed or blessed, you can bring them with you and place them on the altar outside of the lodge in the center of the fire circle. (Just don't forget them when you leave!)
It's a Mini Ranch!
Angel Light Lodge is located on my personal little two acre mini-ranch. Ranches usually have animals; mine ALWAYS does!
If you're allergic to massive, unconditional love that comes in the form of birds, dogs, donkeys, goats, horses, and god only knows what else might be here when you come, this is probably your definition of Hell and not a place you'll want to spend an evening. If you're an animal lover like me, this will be your version of Paradise.
During lodge events, almost *everyone is temporarily confined in safe locations appropriate to their species, so they'll be out of the way and out from under foot.
Please keep ALL doors and gates closed for their safety and yours. (NEVER insert your finger into the parrot's cage! Just in case she decides she doesn't like you!)
A Few Important Points...
01. I am certified in CPR and First Aid and have successfully and safely run literally hundreds of lodges in my lifetime!
02. My lodge is NOT to be compared or confused with any other lodge, for it is NONTRADITIONAL! I broke free from the bondage of tradition years ago for personal reasons that I won't go into here. My work, lodge and my teachings are not of this world, yet they are for those who reside in it.
03. Inside this unique masterpiece, that was created entirely from a medicine dream, one will discover a few creature comforts that help make the experience more enjoyable.
04. Angel Light Lodge is located on private (gated) property and is available exclusively to personal guests who have made reservations at least one week prior to the lodge.
05. This is a modesty, co-ed lodge. Participants are asked to wear appropriate clothing; bathing suite, wraps, towels, shorts, t-shirt, etc.
06. Pregnant or individuals with compromised health, including those who are on prescription medication/s, should consult a health care professional before entering any type of sauna.
07. By entering my lodge, participants are doing so with the full acceptance of personal responsibility and safety.
You are entering at YOUR OWN RISK and encouraged to think for YOURSELF!
You are free to exit the lodge at any time during the ceremony, but are asked to try and wait until the round is complete so as to not disturb other participants. Once you exit the lodge you will NOT be permitted to return until the next round.
08. Absolutely NO DRUGS or ALCOHOL are permitted on the property! (Cigarettes being the only exception. Smokers are welcome to enjoy a cigarette on the back porch.)
09. Please refrain from ingesting any drugs or alcohol at least 48 hours before attending a lodge. This is as much for your safety as it is for my sanity.
How We Roll Around Here
First time jitters are common and pretty normal for newbies. It actually can take up to three or more lodges before one begins to feel comfortable, confident, focused and on point with their whole reason for attending a lodge event. In the beginning, it can feel a little overwhelming for some.
It may help to practice the role of being the observer. Go with the flow and don't be afraid to ask questions to gain a better understanding of how things roll around here. In no time at all, you'll get the hang of things. We've all been there and know exactly how it feels to be the new kid on the block. You have to start somewhere, right?
You can make things easier for yourself by releasing any expectations and dropping any masks you may normally wear at other social gatherings. Around here, we like to keep it real and authentic. SIFI's (Self-Imposed False Identities that one uses to validate and justify their existence in the world) have no place here. Just be yourself. You'll find that that's more than enough! We're all here for the same reasons you are- to go within, focus, heal, grow and reconnect with Source!
SILENCING THE MONKEY-MIND
Participants are encouraged to socialize prior to entering the lodge. However, please keep in mind that many participants (including the lodge leader!) prefer to use this time to mentally and emotionally prepare themselves for their time in the lodge.
If someone appears disinterested in engaging in conversation with you, they're most likely concentrating on themselves and don't wish to be disturbed. Try NOT to take it personal, because it's not.
Newbies tend to be the worst offenders because they lack the discipline required to silence their monkey-minds. Nervous, mindless chatter is a frequency disrupter. If you find yourself guilty of this condition, take a DEEP BREATH, disengage the mouth, and practice being the observer! Don't be afraid to use this hour to go within and prepare for the work that lies ahead of you inside the lodge.
Once the lodge's sacred circle has been entered, everyone is expected to observe a vow of silence (unless spoken to by the lodge leader or otherwise invited to speak for some reason) so that participants, as well as the leader themselves, are able to remain focused on harnessing energies that will be fine-tuned to specific frequencies necessary in achieving one's intentions inside the lodge.
After individuals emerge from the lodge, it is vitally important to refrain from unnecessary conversation for at least 15 minutes. Until all participants have exited the lodge, please conduct any conversations inside the house so as to not disturb those who are in the lodge. (If the windows are open, remember that sounds tend to easily travel in the country and to adjust the volume accordingly.)
During and after the potluck dinner feel free to unleash the monkey-mind and chatter away! At that point everyone's bursting with new ideas, insights and epiphanies that are just begging to be shared! So make sure to get your two cents worth in!
PERSONALIZED ATTENTION
During a lodge, please understand that although I try to take everyone's personal needs into account, I am working with the group as a whole and am unable to focus on individuals at that time. If you feel that you would stand to benefit from more personalized attention, please arrange a private session with me.
GROUP PARTICIPATION
Everyone has something of value to contribute to the whole lodge experience. It is important to lay aside any self-serving or self-entitled attitudes and be fully present, engaged and willing to participate in each moment. If we're performing some sort of group activity, preparing dinner, cleaning up, or closing down the lodge for the evening, everyone is expected to participate. If you're here, you're a part of the tribe! This is YOUR lodge experience. It is not a form of cheap entertainment or a spectator's sport.
"OMG! Will you look at the time? It's 11:00 pm! GO HOME ALREADY!"
Life on a ranch starts at the butt-crack of dawn and usually ends around midnight for me. Thus, sleep is considered precious around here; especially after a lodge, as my workload doubles. I take recharging the batteries seriously and found that I do better if I've not been transformed into a zombie by sleep deprivation.
Because of this, at 10:55 pm, I am left with no choice but to begin the nasty process of evicting lingerers. So, if you find yourself being ushered to the door, it's not because I don't like you, it's because I'm sparing myself the embarrassment of passing out on you in the middle of a good conversation.
